Electric Shower Installation London — Mira, Triton, AKW Fitted & Certified

Short answer: a like-for-like electric shower replacement in London costs £260–£320 inc VAT where the existing supply is sound, and a brand-new installation with its own 10mm² circuit and RCBO runs £480–£780. If the shower needs to go on a board that cannot take it, add a consumer unit replacement from £550. How much does electric shower installation cost in London?

Job Price (inc VAT)
Like-for-like replacement (existing supply OK) £260–£320
Upgrade to higher kW (existing supply OK) £280–£380
New install — 10mm² cable + 40A RCBO £480–£780
New install 10.5kW+ with 50A RCBO £650–£1,100
Shower + new consumer unit +£550–£950 on top
Disability / mobility shower £480–£820
Emergency same-day swap Standard + £50 priority

Prices are for labour and include VAT. The shower unit itself is itemised separately — we can supply it at trade cost or fit one you have already bought. Our minimum charge on any job is £108 inc VAT (£90 + VAT), which covers attendance and the first hour; a shower job always exceeds it, so the figures above are what you actually pay.

What the price includes: installation, RCBO protection, testing, certification (a Minor Works Certificate for a replacement, an Electrical Installation Certificate for a new circuit), Part P notification through NICEIC, and 6 years’ NICEIC warranty on the work.

For how these numbers sit against the rest of our work, see electrician prices London 2026.

Why is a new circuit so much more than a swap?

A replacement is a couple of hours: isolate, remove the old unit, check the existing cable and the earthing, mount and plumb the new one, test and certify. Nothing else in the flat is disturbed.

A new installation means running 10mm² cable from the consumer unit to the bathroom wall, fitting a 40A or 50A RCBO in the board, fitting a ceiling pull-cord isolator, and chasing or boxing the cable route. In a Victorian terrace around Tottenham or Walthamstow, that cable often has to travel two floors with the board in the hallway cupboard — which is where the hours go. In a purpose-built flat with the board in the hall and the bathroom next to it, a new circuit can be at the bottom of the range.

8.5kW vs 9.5kW vs 10.5kW — what power do you need?

Two things decide this in practice. The first is your cold water pressure: a 10.5kW unit on a weak supply will not give you the shower you paid for, and in a top-floor flat on a shared rising main the 8.5kW is often the better buy. The second is the board. Going up in kW can mean the existing consumer unit cannot take the breaker or the load, which brings a fuse board replacement into the job at £550–£950.

Higher kW does not heat the water hotter — it heats it faster, so you get more hot water per minute at the same temperature. That is the whole difference.

Can my fuse board handle an electric shower?

An electric shower is the single biggest load in most London flats, so this is the question that decides the price. We check three things on the survey:

If the board is on the edge, the honest advice is usually to do the board and the shower in the same visit — you pay one lot of labour for the isolation and the testing instead of two. Our guide to the five signs your fuse board needs replacing is a quick way to judge your own.

What we install

Bring your own unit, or we fit any brand at trade cost, typically 15–20% below retail. Where a bathroom is being adapted for someone with limited mobility, the AKW range is what we normally specify — thermostatic, low-pressure tolerant, and available with a lever or a remote start.

What’s included in the price?

What can push the price up?

We price these on the survey, not on the day, so there are no surprises once the water is off. If a photo of the shower, the board and the route is enough to price it, we will quote from that.

Do landlords have to do anything different?

The work itself is the same, but the paperwork matters more. A new shower circuit generates an EIC that belongs in your compliance file, and if the property is due its five-yearly inspection it is worth doing both together — see EICR cost London 2026 and our landlord EICR page. In a licensed HMO, an electric shower on an undersized or shared circuit is a common C2 on inspection; our HMO EICR guide covers what North London councils ask for.

We invoice landlords and letting agents direct on 7-day terms, and we can attend with tenant access arranged by text.

Electric shower installation — FAQs

How long does it take?
One to two hours for a like-for-like replacement, three to five hours for a new circuit, and most of a day if the consumer unit is being replaced at the same time.

Will you remove the old shower?
Yes — removal and disposal are included.

Can you come the same day?
Often yes for replacements, on a £50 priority surcharge. A new circuit normally needs a survey first, even a quick one by photo.

My RCD trips every time I use the shower — does it need replacing?
Usually yes. Moisture getting into the heating element is the classic cause, and once it has started it does not recover. We can confirm it with an insulation resistance test in about half an hour, and if it turns out to be the circuit rather than the unit you have not paid for a shower you did not need. See also why does my fuse board keep tripping.

Can I fit an electric shower myself?
No. A shower circuit in a bathroom is notifiable work under Part P in England, and it has to be certified and notified by a registered electrician. An uncertified installation will show up on an EICR and can affect a sale or an insurance claim.

Can I put a shower on the existing lighting or socket circuit?
No. An electric shower needs its own dedicated circuit and its own protective device, sized for the unit. Anyone offering to spur it off something existing should not be in your bathroom.

Do you cover my area?
We work across Haringey, Hackney, Enfield, Waltham Forest, Islington, Camden, Newham and Tower Hamlets from our Tottenham N15 base. Check the areas we cover.
