What counts as an electrical emergency
- Burning smell or smoke at the consumer unit — kill the main switch immediately
- Repeated tripping that won’t reset — usually a circuit fault getting worse
- Sparks at sockets, switches or light fittings
- Hot or discoloured sockets / switches
- Half the property has lost power
- Total power loss (neighbours have power)
- Buzzing or arcing from the consumer unit
- Water ingress at sockets, lights or consumer unit
- Tripped circuit you can’t identify after a flood or DIY accident
- Smoke alarm screeching and won’t silence
