Manufacturer warranties on the charger itself are typically 3 years.
Every EV install above is quoted as a fixed, all-in price before we start — no surprises. Smaller follow-on jobs (an extra socket, moving an isolator, a minor board tweak) are charged at our standard £108 minimum (£90 + VAT).
OZEV grants for EV chargers — what’s available in 2026
OZEV (the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles) streamlined its grants on 1 April 2026. The surviving schemes run until 31 March 2027, and the headline rate actually went up — from £350 to £500 per socket. What you can still claim in 2026:
- Flats & renters grant — 75% off the cost to buy and install a charger, up to £500 per socket (one socket per household). Aimed squarely at people who rent or own a flat — the typical London situation the national guides ignore.
- Residential landlord chargepoint grant — up to £500 per socket, up to 200 sockets across a landlord’s properties.
- On-street parking grant — for households that rely on on-street parking, up to £500 per socket.
- Workplace Charging Scheme — up to £500 per socket, up to 40 sockets, for businesses, charities and public-sector sites.
Note on older figures: the residential landlord infrastructure grant (up to £40,000) plus the staff & fleets and commercial landlord schemes closed to new applications on 31 March 2026. If you’ve seen those numbers on an older guide, they no longer apply.

OZEV has to approve your grant before the charger is fitted, so we check your eligibility up front and handle the application and claim paperwork as part of the job. Where you qualify, the grant comes straight off your invoice — you don’t claim it back yourself.
Cross-pavement charging — for London flats without drives
For the ~60% of London households without off-street parking, “cross-pavement” or “cable gully” charging is the workaround. We install a flush metal gully across the pavement from your meter to the kerb. When you charge, your cable sits in the gully so pedestrians don’t trip; when you’re not charging, a flush cover seals it.
Each London borough has its own gully approval process. We’ve installed these in:
- Hackney — Gul-e and Kerbo Charge approved schemes
- Camden — Camden’s own permit process; £500-ish council fee on top
- Lambeth — Active rollout, council-supported
- Southwark — Pilot scheme expanded borough-wide 2025
- Islington — Permit-based, runs through highways team

What’s included in a domestic EV charger install
- Pre-survey: confirm earthing system (TN-C-S/TN-S/TT), measure prospective short-circuit current at intake, confirm spare cable route
- Mount the charger unit (wall-fix or pedestal where requested)
- Run 6mm² or 10mm² SWA cable from consumer unit to charger (clipped, conduit-protected, or buried where applicable)
- Install dedicated Type A or Type B RCD protection (depends on charger spec)
- Install MID-compliant kWh meter where workplace/landlord billing applies
- Earth-rod or O-PEN (PME) protective device installation per BS 7671 722

DNO notification — what you don’t need to worry about
For any EV charger install in London, your DNO (UK Power Networks) needs to be notified. We handle this. You don’t fill out a form, you don’t call them — it goes through the smart-installer portal as part of every job.
For 7.4 kW chargers on a standard 100A single-phase supply, this is usually a same-day notification. For 22 kW three-phase or where your existing supply is borderline, UKPN may require a supply upgrade — quoted separately, typically £0–£2,000.
FAQ — EV charger installation London
How long until I can use it?
Same day in most cases. The whole install — including testing, certification and app pairing — usually wraps within a single visit. Cross-pavement gully installs take longer due to council permitting (2-4 weeks).
Do I need permission from my freeholder if I’m a flat owner?
Check your lease. Most modern leases allow exterior modifications with notice. We’ve helped many leaseholders successfully get permission — we can supply a technical specification and risk assessment to support your application.
Will my electricity bill go up?
Yes (you’re using more electricity), but with a smart EV tariff like Octopus Intelligent Go you can charge for as little as 7p/kWh overnight — works out around £8-12 for a full charge of a typical EV. Pair the charger with a smart tariff before the install and the savings compound.
Can I charge from solar PV?
Yes if you have a Zappi, Ohme ePod, or compatible charger. The charger detects solar generation and only draws excess. We can install solar-charger integration with any existing or new PV system.
What if I move house?
The charger stays with the property and adds £500-£2,000 to property value (Energy Saving Trust data). You don’t take it with you.
Is the charger weatherproof?
Every domestic charger we fit is IP54 rated minimum (rain-tested, dust-protected). Outdoor pedestal chargers are typically IP66.
Do I need to be home for the install?
Yes — for sign-off and the app pairing. The actual electrical work doesn’t need your input, but we need 30 minutes at the end to walk you through the app and tariff setup.
What if my install fails?
6 years’ NICEIC warranty on our workmanship; charger manufacturer warranty (typically 3 years) covers the unit. We attend warranty calls under our normal callout response.
