Outdoor electrician prices in London (2026)

The guide prices below are labour only and include VAT; materials such as cable, sockets, lights and consumer units are quoted separately so you only pay for what your job actually needs. Every job carries a minimum charge of £108 (£90 + VAT). We give a fixed price before any work starts — no surprises.

Job Typical labour (inc VAT)
Single weatherproof outdoor socket (off an existing circuit) from £108
Double IP66 outdoor socket on a new RCD-protected spur from £140
Garden lighting circuit (IP65, up to 6 fittings) from £220
Festoon / patio lighting run with switch from £180
Hot tub / spa supply (dedicated RCD circuit, SWA cable) from £480
Shed / outbuilding supply (SWA sub-main + consumer unit) from £520
PIR floodlight / security light fitted from £108
Driveway EV charger (7kW) from £850

Final prices depend on cable runs, access, your existing consumer unit and the spec of materials chosen. We’ll confirm a fixed quote on a quick visit or from photos.

Outdoor sockets: weatherproof, RCD-protected, Part P certified

An outdoor socket is the most-requested garden job we do — and the most commonly fitted wrongly by non-electricians. Any socket outdoors must be a minimum IP66-rated weatherproof unit with a spring-loaded cover, and it must be on an RCD-protected circuit (30mA) so the supply cuts instantly if a cable is damaged or water gets in. We run the spur in the correct cable, seal every entry point, and issue a certificate. If you need several sockets around the garden, a dedicated outdoor ring or radial is usually tidier and cheaper than multiple spurs — see our guide to outdoor sockets in London for the detail.

Garden & landscape lighting (IP65 and above)

Done well, garden lighting transforms how you use the space after dark and adds real value. Done badly, it trips the board every time it rains. We install all exterior lighting on a dedicated RCD-protected circuit using IP65 (or higher) fittings, with weatherproof junctions and proper cable glands. Popular options include recessed decking and step lights, spike-mounted spotlights to uplight trees and walls, festoon lighting over patios and pergolas, and smart-controlled or dusk-to-dawn switching. If you want app and voice control, we can integrate exterior lighting with your wider smart home system.

Hot tub & spa electrical supply

A hot tub is a heavy, continuous electrical load sitting outdoors in a wet environment — it must have its own dedicated circuit, correctly sized (most plug-and-play tubs need 13A or 16A; larger tubs need a 32A supply), run in steel-wire-armoured (SWA) cable, protected by a 30mA RCD, and ideally fitted with a weatherproof isolator switch within sight of the tub. Never run a hot tub off an extension lead or a standard outdoor socket — it’s the most dangerous outdoor mistake we’re called to correct. We’ll assess whether your consumer unit can take the extra circuit (and upgrade it if not — see fuse board replacement costs), then install and certify the whole supply.

Shed, garage & garden-office power

Garden rooms, home offices, workshops and gyms all need a proper supply — not a flex trailed across the lawn. We run an SWA sub-main from your house consumer unit to a small dedicated board in the outbuilding, then add sockets, lighting and (if needed) heating circuits. Everything is RCD-protected, tested and certified, so your garden office is safe to work in year-round.

Driveway EV charging

If you’re powering the garden, it’s often the perfect time to add a driveway charge point too. We install weatherproof 7kW chargers on a dedicated circuit, with load management where the supply is tight. Full pricing and the latest 2026 OZEV grant position are in our EV charger installation cost guide for London.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an electrician to fit an outdoor socket?

Yes. Adding a socket or any circuit outdoors is notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations and must be carried out and certified by a registered electrician. A NICEIC-approved electrician issues the certificate that keeps your installation legal and your insurance valid.

How much does garden lighting cost to install in London?

A dedicated IP65 garden lighting circuit with up to six fittings typically starts from £220 labour (inc VAT), with materials quoted separately. The exact cost depends on the number of fittings, cable runs and whether smart controls are added. Our minimum charge is £108.

Can you wire a hot tub supply?

Yes — this is one of our most common outdoor jobs. We install a dedicated, correctly sized, RCD-protected circuit in armoured cable with a weatherproof isolator, and certify the installation. Supplies typically start from £480 labour depending on cable run and whether your consumer unit needs upgrading.

Will outdoor electrics trip my fuse board?

Not when they’re installed correctly. Nuisance tripping almost always comes from non-weatherproof fittings, poor connections or missing RCD protection. We use IP65+ fittings and dedicated RCD-protected circuits so your garden power stays reliable in all weather.

Is your outdoor work guaranteed?

Yes. All work is carried out by a NICEIC-approved contractor, certified, fully insured, and rated 9.69/10 across 237 Checkatrade reviews.
