What we do in EN1 and EN2

Enfield Town has the widest spread of housing of any part of the borough, and that decides the work. Around the town centre, Bush Hill Park and the Lancaster Road side the stock is late-Victorian and Edwardian terraces and villas, a lot of them in the Bush Hill Park and Enfield Town conservation areas, with the loft conversions and side-return kitchens that go with a family area — so rewires, partial rewires and consumer-unit changes on houses that were last wired in the 1970s or 80s are the everyday call. Enfield Chase, Slades Hill and the Ridgeway are 1930s semis and detached houses with big gardens and driveways, which is where nearly all our EV charger work in the postcode is, along with garden-office supplies and hot tubs. Forty Hill and Clay Hill have older, larger and occasionally listed houses where the wiring has to be run with some care. The town centre itself has the flats above the shops on Church Street and the newer blocks at Palace Gardens and along Southbury Road, where the work is landlord EICRs, communal-area reports for managing agents and the occasional HMO licence package. And Enfield’s own council stock and the ex-council houses around Bury Street and the Southbury side keep us busy with fuse-board changes and fault-finding. Full borough pricing is on the EICR Enfield page; this one is the Enfield Town detail.

Enfield Town wiring: what usually comes up

Four findings account for most of the reports we write in EN1 and EN2. First, the 1970s or 80s rewire behind an old plastic board in the Bush Hill Park and Lancaster Road terraces: PVC cable that still tests well, a board with no RCD or a single RCD covering everything, so one fault in the garden trips the whole house. That is a C2 on the socket and bathroom circuits, and the fix is an RCBO board from £550, not a rewire. Second, the loft conversion done without a certificate — Enfield Town has had more lofts than almost anywhere in the borough, and a fair number were wired off the upstairs lighting circuit with no separate supply; a dedicated circuit is from £180 and we certify it. Third, in the 1930s houses on the Chase side, original rubber-sheathed cable still feeding a landing light or the front bell, which is a C1 or C2 depending on how the insulation has aged and is normally a single-circuit replacement from £180. Fourth, and this is the Enfield Town speciality, outbuildings on the long gardens — garages, summer houses and garden offices supplied by a flex or a length of twin-and-earth clipped along the fence, which is a C2 every time and is replaced with armoured cable and its own small board from £350.

EN1 and EN2 sellers, buyers, landlords and EV drivers

Enfield Town is a moving market — the conservation-area terraces and the Chase semis change hands constantly — and the two questions we get most from the town’s estate agents are whether a house needs an EICR to sell (it does not, but a satisfactory report stops a buyer’s survey reopening the price for “rewiring required” four weeks into the sale — see EICRs when selling) and how quickly we can do one before exchange, which is usually within the week. Landlords with flats over the Church Street shops or in the Palace Gardens and Southbury blocks need a satisfactory EICR under five years old like every private let in England, with a £40,000-per-breach ceiling since 1 May 2026 and a 28-day deadline to give the tenant the report. Every HMO in Enfield needs an additional licence, and parts of the Southbury side sit inside the borough’s selective licensing scheme, so check your ward before assuming a single let is exempt. For EV drivers on the Chase and the Ridgeway a 7 kW charger on a driveway is from £450 labour, with the supply upgrade and a load-limiting device where the house is on a 60 A fuse — we handle the UK Power Networks notification. If the fuse board is the old plastic type, the charger and the board are best done on the same day.

Frequently asked questions

Which parts of Enfield Town do you cover?

All of EN1 and EN2: the town centre, Bush Hill Park, Enfield Chase, Slades Hill and the Ridgeway, Forty Hill, Clay Hill, Baker Street, Lancaster Road, and the Southbury Road and Great Cambridge Road side. Winchmore Hill N21 has its own page — electrician Winchmore Hill — as do Edmonton, Palmers Green and Southgate; Ponders End, Enfield Highway and Enfield Lock EN3 have their own page too — electrician Ponders End.

My house is in the Bush Hill Park conservation area — does that affect the electrical work?

Not the electrics themselves. Conservation-area rules cover the outside of the house, so an EV charger on a front elevation or a meter box on a street-facing wall may need a word with the council’s planning team, but rewiring, a new consumer unit and internal work need no consent. For listed houses on Forty Hill and Clay Hill we run cables to avoid disturbing original plaster and joinery, and we tell you in advance where that changes the route or the price.

Do you do EV chargers on the Enfield Chase driveways?

Yes — 7 kW tethered or untethered, from £450 labour, with the charger itself at trade cost. Most Chase and Ridgeway houses are on a 60 A or 80 A single-phase supply, which is fine for a 7 kW charger with a load-limiting device; we notify UK Power Networks and register the installation. Full details and unit prices are on the Enfield EV charger page.

Is there parking?

The town centre and the streets around the station and Palace Gardens are in Enfield’s controlled parking zones during weekday hours; Bush Hill Park, the Chase and Forty Hill are mostly free. We use a visitor permit where the property has one, otherwise the actual parking cost is added at the end and we tell you which before the visit. No parking charge for evening or weekend appointments outside CPZ hours.
