Home charging is the cheapest way to run an electric vehicle — roughly 7-10p per kWh on an off-peak tariff compared with 50-80p at a public charger. If your Hackney property has off-street parking, a driveway, or even a front garden, a home EV charger pays for itself within the first year of ownership.
F & A Electrical installs home EV chargers across Hackney — from Victorian terraces in Clapton and Stoke Newington to warehouse conversions in Hackney Wick. NICEIC approved, Part P certified, from £700.
Hackney property types and EV charging
Victorian terraces (Clapton, Dalston, Stoke Newington, Mare Street): Many Hackney terraces have small front gardens or converted front areas that can accommodate a wall-mounted charger. The main consideration is the cable run from the consumer unit (often at the rear of the property under the stairs) to the front wall. Longer runs increase cost but are straightforward for a qualified electrician.
Converted houses with shared driveways: Common across E5, E8, and N16. If you have a dedicated parking space in a shared driveway, a charger can be mounted on the boundary wall or a dedicated post. We advise on metering options so you only pay for your own usage.
Ex-council properties: Where you have a council-allocated parking space near your home, installation is usually possible subject to council or housing association approval. We can prepare a technical specification to support your application.
Warehouse conversions (Hackney Wick, London Fields area): These often have generous parking and sometimes three-phase electrical supplies, which can support faster 22kW charging if your vehicle accepts it.
What we install
We fit 7kW untethered or tethered chargers from Easee, Ohme, Hypervolt, and Zappi. All are OZEV-approved and smart-enabled for off-peak scheduling.
- Untethered — socket-based, works with any EV Type 2 cable. Neater appearance.
- Tethered — cable permanently attached for convenience.
Most Hackney homes have a single-phase supply supporting 7kW — roughly 30 miles of range per hour of charging, easily a full charge overnight.
Installation process
- Survey — we assess your supply, consumer unit, and best cable route. For terraces, this usually means running from the consumer unit through to the front of the property.
- DNO notification — we notify UKPN if required (handled by us)
- Installation — dedicated 32A circuit with its own RCBO protection. Typical install: 3-5 hours.
- Certification — Part P compliance certificate and Electrical Installation Certificate
